This Mom with Breast Cancer Will Move You Without Saying a Word
In a heartbreaking video currently going viral, Holley Kitchen explains the upsetting truth about metastatic cancer—without even speaking.
Kitchen, of Cedar Park, TX, explains her uphill battle against cancer in the above clip. The now 42-year-old mother of two was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer at age 39. She fought back for an entire year, receiving treatments and a double mastectomy, which she believed had rid her of the disease.
Yet it returned in the worst imaginable way. Kitchen was diagnosed with metastatic cancer—a type that spreads from the original location to other parts of the body. In the video, she provides viewers with a few devastating facts about the illness, including that there is no cure for this specific kind.
Her video, although filled with tragic statistics and touching personal anecdotes, isn't meant to depress her viewers. According to Kitchen, she created the clip to a type of cancer that often gets overlooked, due to its incurable nature. She offers viewers suggestions about what to and not to say to a person with metastatic cancer, and encourages people to learn more about the deadly disease for themselves. In an interview withPeople, she said she originally had hoped for about 1,000 views. Now more than 42 million views later, this persistent cancer "thriver" has created a Facebook page to bring awareness to her cause.
Kitchen's moving video is a must-see, and once you've watched it, you'll understand why she's inspired millions.
